How does the Kremlin respond?

Invercargill City Council environmental health services manager John Youngson said the independent survey found the noise levels from the Niagara Sawmill exceeded levels allowed in the district plan and were at such intense levels that people were reporting health issues caused by lack of sleep

They sneak around and try to catch them out.  I’ve had experience of the Kremlin testing noise levels.  Some bloke turned up at Blues one night when we were watching a Test match and said there was too much noise and we had to keep it down.  Given I had just walked from home to the club and hadn’t heard a thing on the way, I asked him where his decibel meter was.

“I don’t have one.  We got a complaint.”  I suggested he go and get one and come back.  The only noise you could hear was the TV – and that was only if you were standing immediately outside the entrance to the clubrooms.

I liked this quote in the fish n chipper story:

You built or bought a house next to a sawmill.  What the fuck did you expect?  The old rooster in the story even built a deck facing the sawmill…you have to ask yourself.

Instead of talking to the company and finding a solution, the Kremlin looks to axe them.

If that [deleted to protect the innocent]-smoking loony wants an event in February, look at what you’ve got.  You could host a masters touch tournament and a Golden Oldies rugby tournament at the same time at Sandy Point.  The ILT would love that.

Giving $280,000 to a few yachts and god knows what else to spruce up Bluff (which they should have been doing anyway) does my ****ing head in.

Time for the whole lot to get arseholed out of their $40,000 a year do-nothing jobs.

Eddie is, of course, correct.  While no-one gets to see a few yachts at Island Harbour, everyone could enjoy a touch/rugby/softball well-run event at Sandy Point’s many grounds.  But that would be sensible.  And as we know, this is the Kremlin’s approach to things:

I have no faith in the Office of the Auditor-General:

Under section 46 of the Local Government Act, if a local authority has suffered a loss as a result of certain types of unlawful or negligent actions, that loss may be recoverable from councillors.

Councillors have a defence under section 46 if the actions that caused the loss occurred without their knowledge, or if they acted in good faith and relied on information or advice given by employees of the authority or other professional advisers.

Section 46 means we have to wait until the election.  That will be fun.
